How to contribute to Queer Wisconsin

Queer Wisconsin grows through community knowledge — corrections, memories, photos, and missing entries — reviewed by people before anything publishes.

Updated 2026-09-13

Contributing requires an account. Visit Sign up, then open Contribute (or use “Know more?” on any entry). You can attach photos (optimized on upload), suggest corrections to names and dates, share a memory, or point us at media we should cite.

Every submission enters a moderation queue. Editors check facts, rights, and privacy before publishing. That can take time; we prefer careful review over instant posts. If your contribution is approved, it may update an existing entry or seed a new one.

Do not use the contribute form for urgent privacy or safety concerns. Use the privacy & takedown request instead. Our privacy policy explains sensitivity flags — suppressing addresses or media, legal hold, and extra care for living people — without erasing the archival record when a lighter touch is enough.

We especially welcome: exact addresses and years; owner and performer names with consent or public sourcing; scanned ephemera you have permission to share; and regional stories outside Milwaukee and Madison. Before you write a long narrative, skim What we cite and why so your notes fit how we publish.

Thank you for helping keep Wisconsin queer history findable — and for supporting the ongoing work of the Wisconsin LGBTQ History Project, whose research makes so much of this archive possible.
