Privacy & sensitivity policy
Queer Wisconsin publishes LGBTQ+ history for education and community memory. We take privacy seriously and review every takedown or correction request by hand.
What we publish
Entries may include names, places, dates, images, and narrative text drawn from historical sources and community contributions. Published material is reviewed by volunteers before it goes live.
Sensitivity flags
Moderators can mark entries with internal flags that change how information appears publicly, without deleting the archival record:
- Suppress address — street address, city, and map coordinates are hidden on the public page.
- Suppress media — photos are hidden on the public page.
- Contact review — email and website fields are hidden on the public page.
- Legal hold — the entry is treated as unpublished on the public site while staff review a concern.
- Living person — an editor note for extra care; may be combined with other flags as needed.
Request a review
If you believe content is inaccurate, harmful, or should be limited for privacy or safety, submit a request:

What happens next
- Your request is stored privately (not shown on the public site).
- A moderator reviews the entry and may unpublish it, apply sensitivity flags, or leave it unchanged.
- If you left an email address, we may contact you for clarification.
- Typical response time is a few business days; complex cases may take longer.
