"My first AIDS patients came to the hospital to die." For 23 years, Raymond Bachhuber, M.D., has conducted his HIV medical practice with the single goal of saving the lives of his patients. His expert knowledge of HIV and his compassionate bedside manner have assured his patients of the finest care. Bachhuber has dedicated his internal medicine practice to treating the total health of his HIV patients. He has worked with them to stop smoking, increase exercise and reduce HIV risk behaviors knowing that these changes will help them achieve good health and longer lives. Bachhuber was a leader in building a community support system for AIDS patients in Green Bay. He was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the CENTER Project, an AIDS service agency that would become the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin. "In the beginning I recall a group of 10 guys waiting to die. All of them were friends who had given away their belongings. Then protease inhibitors became available and now eight of them are alive and back at work." "I used to have three or four deaths a week.
