Biography
Anna Gravelyn (1876-1944), widely known as "Sailor Ann," was the proprietor of the Milwaukee dockside tavern she opened as the Sail & Rail Hotel & Buffet in 1900. Famous as the "Queen of the Marine District," she ran the bar for over four decades, defying convention and weathering repeated Prohibition-era raids until her death.
