Red Room Bar

Milwaukee

Summary

The Red Room Bar operated in the Plankinton Arcade at 161 W. Wisconsin Avenue in Milwaukee from about 1935 into the 1950s, and is remembered by many older gay men as a longtime hangout. It was earlier known as the College Inn. Its reputation as a gay gathering place is said to have grown after a young Liberace played piano there in the 1930s. The Plankinton Arcade was demolished in 1980.
