Nut House

Nut House was a downtown Milwaukee venue at 623 N. 6th Street, operating around 1933 to 1935 and known for its female-impersonator revues during a flourishing era of drag entertainment in the city. The shows drew sharp opposition from city officials, and the bar was shut down; its owner, Sophie Uzelac, was barred from operating a business in Milwaukee. The crackdown was part of a broader move against drag performance in the mid-1930s.
