M & M Club
Milwaukee
Summary
M & M Club was one of Milwaukee's most beloved LGBTQ destinations, operating for nearly thirty years from its opening on July 4, 1976, by community activist Bob Schmidt with partners Leo Peters and Jim Moes. Housed in a 1904 former Pabst saloon and boarding house in the Historic Third Ward, it served as a gathering place for socializing, community events, and the performing arts. The club also ran the longest-operating restaurant of any Milwaukee LGBTQ business, later known as the Glass Menagerie.
Bob Schmidt bought out his partners by 1985 and sold the business in 2002; the M & M Club closed on May 14, 2006, and has been honored by reunion gatherings since.
