Grand Prix

Milwaukee

Summary

The Grand Prix, often listed as the Grand Prix Lounge, was a Milwaukee bar on East Juneau Avenue whose name derived from an earlier racing-themed incarnation. By the late 1960s its interior featured red and black decor and celebrity caricatures, and patrons knew it simply as "the GP." It appears in national gay bar guides from 1966 to 1972, with notes that varied widely from "very popular" to "rough area," before listings ceased. An advertisement from January 1961 names Fred Rediske and Karl A. Ratzsch Jr.

as owners of the business at that earlier time.
