Going My Way?
Madison
Summary
Going My Way? opened on July 1, 1977 at 111 W. Main Street in Madison, Wisconsin, in a remodeled and enlarged former venue (the Turtle Club). Promoted as Madison's largest gay bar, it offered multiple levels: a men's bar and community space, a women's bar and community space, and a dance floor. Its opening coincided with a shift of Madison's gay nightlife, drawing patrons away from the smaller Back Door.
The bar changed ownership around early 1981 and operated for a time as "one eleven west" under owners Mary Haugh and Char Arner, who remodeled it into a multi-floor dance venue. By 1982 it was again advertised as Going My Way, and it closed in late 1982 or early 1983.
