The Alternative
Milwaukee
Summary
1st Street that opened in July 1988 under co-owners known as Pete (also called Pat) and Beverly. Marketed as an Art Deco-styled venue, it served a mixed crowd of women and men and later added a disco room. In an effort to boost business, the bar was rebranded several times during 1990, first as "The Fresh Alternative" and then as "Mick's Alternative," which added food service. The changes did not reverse its decline, and the bar closed in late 1990. The space reopened in 1991 as Leaded Shade II.
